20th century museum
As a new century unfolded, the work on this conceptual project enabled us to explore not only the theme of the competition but moreover to use it as an opportunity to make a statement regarding the role of the public building as a cultural agent and its ability to develop an informal and accessible discourse with its end users and its surrounding urban fabric.
Under a field of glass a forest is buried deep, 20th century exhibits are scattered throughout. A warning to mankind.
People stumble onto the field as they stroll about the city. Distractedly they bow their heads, as if in mourning, to observe the exhibits below their feet while other cross the field pressing on to their daily errands, some walk their dogs, some jog around…
The city is reflected upon the glass field fusing past and present into one. As night falls a beacon of light shines from below flooding the field with a light of hope.
