SIR ALBERT HOTEL IN AMSTERDAM IS THE IDEAL RESIDENCE OF A modern ARISTOCRAT.
‘Sir’ stands for THE 2.0 VERSION OF AN ARISTOCRAT: A COSMOPOLITAN, FREE SPIRIT GENTLEMAN WHO FEELS AT EASE IN EVERY PART OF THE WORLD.
ENTERING THE HOTEL YOU ENTER HIS house: AT ‘SIR ALBERT’, GUESTS are WELCOMED at A COSY STUDY AROUND A BIG OVAL TABLE AND enjoy BREAKFAST AT IZAKAYA, Sir’s favorite RESTAURANT that embodies A personal touch.
THE MONUMENTAL BUILDING that now HOSTS sir albert used to be a DIAMOND FACTORY. THE CHANGE OF program introduced an opportunity to give it a second life and amplify THE DIALOGUE BETWEEN THE BUILDING AND THE city.
With its ground floor windows starting high above the interior’s level, we lifted the floor facing the street to introduce a visual connection between the guests of the hotel and the pedestrians. A visual bonding of great importance.
DIFFERENT TYPOLOGIES OF ROOMS HAVE BEEN DESIGNED IN ORDER TO RESPOND TO THE DIFFERENT NEEDS OF DIFFERENT GUESTS, BUT ALL OF THEM WITH THE SAME RELAXED ELEGANCE AND COSINESS WHICH WOULD PLEASE SIR ALBERT FOR SURE.
THE INTERIORs boast A collection OF FURNITURE, DETAILS and ART WORKS WHICH CONVEY THe IDEA OF BEING a guest OF A great traveller such as sir albert.
located at sir albert’s, IZAKAYA is fusion JAPANESE RESTAURANT HEADED BY THE MICHELIN STAR-CHEF HARY SHETTY. it’s sir albert’s favorite.
THE IDEA BEHIND THE PROJECT IS inspired by ‘WABI-SABI’, a JAPANESE AESTHETIC that celebrates the IMPERFECT, the aging and the cycles in nature.
THE MAIN FEATURE OF THE RESTAURANT IS A 360-DEGREEs zink BAR which ages with dignity. THE FLOOR IS a BLACK SLATE that echoes nature with its rugged finish. a communal solid wood trunk top amplifies the presence of nature inside.
“… WHEN WE FIRST WALKED THROUGH AMSTERDAM, I REMEMBER SAYING THAT THE LIFE OF THE CITY DWELLERS IS EXPOSED AS IF THEY WERE IN A SHOP WINDOW …”
THIS IS TYPICAL DUTCH. WE WANTED TO TAKE THE OPPORTUNITY TO integrate THIS quality OF THE city LIFE INTO OUR DESIGN.
speaking ABOUT RESTAURANTS, IF YOU DO NOT SEE ANYONE THERE through the windows YOU JUST keep on WALKING…people attract people, no matter on which side of the window you are. human bonding is key. Hence, elevating the floor level along the length of the facade was only imminent.
