Located in the heart of the Dutch capital, behind the Royal Palace.

the hotel is just steps from the city’s iconic canal district, with its vibrant restaurants, bars and nightlife scene. W stands out as a design-driven lifestyle brand, offering a unique mix of cutting-edge music, fashion and design.

The city of Amsterdam and its people are key inspiration to our work. Amsterdam is the epitome of liberalism; it’s about people not monuments; a home and refuge for people of different ethnic backgrounds, religion and sexual orientations. Then, the buildings themselves and their fascinating history inspired our narrative- “Connect & Exchange”.

We were inspired by the telephone wires and electricity lines that played an integral part in the building’s setting and decided to incorporate the brass tubes in the different spaces of the hotel.

Five Kilometers of brass tubes were used as a recurring design element in the W Amsterdam Hotel.

The brass tubes lead throughout the building and create a dynamic dialogue with guests and spaces they cross over and ‘define’.

Drawing from the local culture that stands for progress, tolerance and transcending social classes. The spatial and material qualities had to resonate with that DNA when developing the story for W Amsterdam. Hence, we explored materials which by nature represent and reflect such a cultural mindset. As always, we couldn’t have done it without the passion of the people behind the production of the design which played a key role in the final result.
